Finding Confidence Through Cause: Why I'm Walking with Zoe

I recently signed up to join a local team of single women participating in the Zoe Sex Trafficking Rescue Walk, and I have to say—it’s already doing more for me than I expected. Of course, the primary reason for joining is to support an incredibly important cause: helping rescue and restore children from human trafficking. But as I prepare for this walk, I’m realizing that taking on a cause outside myself is also changing me in some unexpected and empowering ways.

In a world that constantly nudges us toward self-focus—our looks, our careers, our relationship status—it’s easy to get stuck in cycles of comparison or self-doubt. But something powerful happens when we shift our focus outward, especially toward something as meaningful as fighting injustice. You start to feel more grounded. More connected. And yes, more confident.

There’s a deep sense of purpose that comes from aligning yourself with a mission greater than your own circumstances. For me, walking with this group of women—each with her own story, her own strength—is a reminder that we’re not alone in our journeys. We’re not meant to stay in the sidelines of life, waiting to feel “ready” or “perfect.” We’re meant to move, to show up, to care. That’s where the growth happens.

Supporting the Zoe walk is not just about raising funds or awareness (though those are huge). It’s also about reclaiming the idea that we can make a difference. Even if we don’t have it all figured out, even if life is messy—our voices and our steps matter.

This journey is reminding me that confidence doesn’t just come from achievements or accolades. Sometimes, it comes from standing for something. From walking in solidarity with others. From lifting someone else up and realizing, in the process, that you're lifting yourself, too.

If you’ve ever felt stuck or small, I encourage you: find a cause. Even a small step in someone else’s direction can shift everything. You’ll find courage in community. You’ll find strength in purpose. And you just might find yourself a little more than you expected.
